Tiếng Việt: Theo truyền thuyết thì Lạc Long Quân và Âu Cơ là thủy tổ của một trăm dân tộc phía nam (sông) Trường Giang, được gọi chung là Bách Việt. Truyền thuyết này sau đó đã được các sách sử thời phong kiến chính thống hóa. Theo đó, lịch sử Việt Nam bắt đầu từ 4000 năm trước với Xích Quỷ là nhà nước đầu tiên, do Kinh Dương Vương lập nên. Các cuốn sách này cũng mô tả cương vực Xích Quỷ có biên giới phía đông giáp với Nam Hải (biển Đông), phía tây tới Ba Thục (Tứ Xuyên), phía bắc giáp hồ Động Đình, và phía nam tới nước Hồ Tôn (Chăm Pa). Lãnh thổ của Xích Quỷ tiếp tục được kế thừa bởi nước Văn Lang, nhưng đã mất dần với lý do không được nêu.
English: According to a Vietnamese legend, Lac Long Quan (the Dragon Lord) and Au Co (the Fairy) were the ancestors of a hundred tribes south of Yangtze river, collectively known as Baiyue. The legend was then canonized by Vietnamese historians during the feudal/monarchal era. Because of this, the Vietnamese started to believe that their history has begun 4000 years ago. According to their books, Xích Quỷ bordered South China Sea to the east, Ba Shu (Sichuan) to the west, Dongting Lake to the north, and Hồ Tôn Kingdom (Champa) to the south. These territories were succeed by Văn Lang, but most were lost later on for unknown reasons. |
